Advocacy in Action: Global budgets and tax advocacy in 2023

Sep 30, 2023 · 7 min watch

In this instalment of the Advocacy in Action video series, Michelle Mullen, vice president of Global Advocacy, provides an update on a range of key issues, including tax advocacy in Europe, the 2023 UK Spring Budget and 2023 Hong Kong Spring Budget, inflation and apprenticeships.

AICPA® & CIMA® are leading the way on several advocacy fronts. We are engaged with the European Institutions on sustainability reporting, with a focus on Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D). In addition, we continue to keep a watching brief as proposals for a EU-wide definition of aggressive tax planning take shape.

AICPA® & CIMA® are in a prime position to lead the profession. In advance of the UK Spring Budget, the advocacy team shared recommendations and proposals to the UK Chancellor, based on member feedback and insights on core measures and initiatives to support business. With an ongoing focus on strengthening economies (productivity, inflation and apprenticeships) our budget submission reflected our key policy positions.

In addition, working alongside colleagues in Hong Kong, our advocacy work also included a similar budget submission for the Hong Kong government, focused on the region's talent acquisition and retention to drive future economic growth.
